With the short version of Blackburn now in post-production, we will be moving on to a couple new short projects and prepping for a feature shoot this summer/fall.

The short projects will be shooting in the next couple months and we are very excited about these since they were both optioned from well known writers (one Horror, one SciFi). We will be announcing and posting more details about these very soon.

As for the feature, it is called By the Silvery Moon, and we are now actively looking for a few key crew members (location sound and lighting/grip/gaff). We are also going to be casting in the next month for this film. Casting announcements will be listed here, as well as on the official Facebook page for the film (stop by there and like us).

In the meantime, we will be posting more info here soon about Blackburn and where the film is headed. Cheers!Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23710964.post-4145899362504908522014-06-23T21:07:00.002-05:002014-06-23T21:07:52.739-05:003 Shorts and a Long!

Before jumping into what's COMING UP, lets catch up on Blackburn. With two more weekends of shooting approaching, the short version of Blackburn will be finished and ready to hit the horror film festival circuit. We are hoping to generate some monetary interest in the feature length version of the film by doing this--or to at least partner with a co-production company to complete the feature. But once that is finished...

Elsinore Productions will be producing three short films July through September--each a unique story/project, each for specific markets and film festivals. Here they are:

Hunterman

A horror version of the show Survivorman. Terrance Shaw is ex-military, a survivalist, and videographer. Now in the second season of his show Hunterman, Shaw decides to take on the mysterious legends surrounding an area of the Appalachians known as 'the Fells.' But the show goes awry when the tales turn out to be more truth than fiction.

Quietus

Based on the short story by Orson Scott Card (and being shot with his permission), Quietus is the story of one man's death and what it takes for him to cross over to the other side.

Magpie

When insurance adjuster Peter Cain finds his mistress dead in her apt, his only clues are a fresh tattoo, an isolated mailbox that belongs to no one, and an antique ice pick that disappears with the dawn. All seems lost until he sees another woman at the mysterious mailbox...and he is drawn into her world as well.

As for the long mentioned in the title... A feature film is in the works for this winter, but all we can say is that it will be a supernatural thriller, it will be shot in Memphis, Tennessee, and it will be awesome!

So remember to send us your headshots/resumes, actors (info@elsinoreproductions.com)--and check back for more updates on what we are shooting. With production only a month away, there is a lot going on with Blackburn! We are knee deep in contracts/legal, finding locations, and scheduling shooting days. Good stuff. But what is better, is that we are ALMOST done with casting! This weekend should bring that chapter to an end and we can then move on to the wonderful world of table reads and rehearsals.
We will be shooting a psychological/supernatural thriller Fall 2013, tentatively titled Blackburn, and we are ramping up for this shoot by hiring two production teams for alternate shooting dates (and to have a backup if there is a scheduling conflict with any crew members). To that end we will need two of the following:

1st Assistant Director: Primary duties include directing when the director is using video assist, preparing each scene for shooting, and managing production team during set-ups.

Camera Operator: DSLR experience (Canon) a must. Helpful if you have a working assistant that you already use for shoots. Having your own camera is a plus, but not a must.

On-set Sound: Experience with dual system sound will be necessary (or at least knowledge/practice of such). Knowing how to boom and monitor the recorder at the same time helpful (in case there's not a boom operator present that day). Having your own gear not necessary.

Script Supervisor: (may need only one of these) Primary duties include script supervision, continuity, publicity stills, and logging camera/audio data.

Production Manager: (may need only one of these) Primary duties include recruiting and managing production assistants for on-set help, tracking of wardrobe/props/gear, and daily reports (call sheets, etc.).

The film will be shot on nights and weekends Oct/Nov/Dec 2013--but not EVERY weekend. We will try to schedule shooting dates around community schedules--and plan stand-ins for when a crew members cannot be present (also why we are hiring two of each). The film will mostly be shot in Fayette County (so close by).

This will be a low budget feature--so keep that in mind when giving us a price quote for your work (flat rates for project will be even better). Regardless of pay, EVERY crew member will receive IMDb/film credit (yes it will be an actual listed production, and yes it will be distributed/for sale after a theater/festival run), a screener of the finished product, and invited to attend the wrap party/screenings.

If you are interested in any of these positions, please send us an email of interest, with the position in the subject heading, to info@elsinoreproductions.com. Please include any links for reels, resume, etc. that you may have--as well as what pay requirements would be. And be sure to add our official Facebook page to stay tuned to updates, new hires, casting calls, etc. Thanks!Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23710964.post-84761407781474229082012-05-13T15:50:00.000-05:002012-05-13T15:50:59.630-05:00Support Our Indiegogo FM CampaignIn an effort to raise formal funds and bring on investors for our feature film FM, we will be shooting a trailer/short film version of the script. In order to shoot this short/trailer, we need to raise money... That's where Indiegogo comes in!

Help support this Memphis production--and possibly bring a funded independent film project to the city--by contributing to our campaign. We have a low budget (less than $2K) and our goal is quite attainable. Even if you can't afford to donate anything to the project, please help us out by getting the word out by posting the campaign on your Facebook page and Tweeting about us.
The good news: Black Magick has been noticed--and picked up--by a production company in La La Land. This is good because they will have a much bigger budget to spend on the film than we would have--but with it comes the knowledge that we will no longer be shooting the movie here in Memphis! Unless of course, the script languishes in development and the rights revert back to me--something that does happen on a regular basis, but can't happen for Black Magick for 22 more months. That is the bad news (if you can really call it bad). But this brings us to more good news...

We are officially announcing two new feature film projects. The first is titled Far From the Evening and it will be shot Dec 2011 thru Feb 2012. This film is being developed with the good folks at IFC who have been chiming in with their two cents--and we've been listening! Since IFC would be a great place to end up for distribution, we are developing and shooting the movie with them in mind. We are actively seeking crew positions for this shoot--as well as casting very soon--so stay tuned for most postings in the near future concerning this production. Here is the official description of the movie:

After eleven years in prison, Lester Hall is going home. Journeying by river from Cairo, Illinois to Memphis, Tennessee, Hall confronts a world that has passed him by. Guided by a fate that seems inescapable, Hall confronts the ghosts of his past crimes, a family that's suspended in time, and an ex-fiance that he's dreamed of killing for the past decade.

As for the second project, it is titled The Mighty Winter and it will go into production mid-to-late 2012--though I will be shooting B-roll for the film as early as this November in the Smoky Mountains. With a longer development time--and most likely production schedule as well--this is a much more ambitious project as it will incorporate VFX and more unique locations. Here is the official description:

Daring the harsh nuclear winter, Finn searches for the ultimate piece of old world tech--a means to unite the remnants of humanity. Guided only by a pre-war journal and the writings of the Eddas, Finn's quest will take him through poisonous environs, the shattered remains of civilization, and the wilds of the Great Smoky Mountains. An area now inhabited by the feral descendants of the Appalachians.

More information about Far From the Evening and The Mighty Winter coming soon! Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23710964.post-40595544363535134502011-07-07T23:42:00.000-05:002011-07-07T23:44:30.238-05:00DSLR Advice for FilmmakersSince purchasing and using our new DSLR package (Canon EOS 60D), we have learned a lot about using these cameras for filmmaking. Here are ten tips for shooting your first movie using a DSLR (HDSLR) camera:

1. Know your workflow. What editing program will you be using? Will you need color correction in post (most likely)? Are you shooting separate sound (also most likely)? Knowing what post-production programs you will be using will dictate the settings for the camera and what additional equipment you will need while shooting--like external audio recorder, filters, boom or lavalier mic, etc. This also includes your workflow on the set. Will you be dumping the video files off your camera's memory card as you shoot, or will you purchase a lot of cards to avoid this on the set?

2. Experiment with lenses. Just because somebody slams a particular lens on Amazon.com, it doesn't mean that it's bad. Conversely, if somebody raves about one...well, you get the picture. Most reviewers of lenses use them for still photography, so they have extremely high standards. They have to: high-end DSLR's shoot 18 megapixel (and higher) photos. But HD video clocks in just under 2 megapixels. So a lens that might be mediocre for stills can actually excel at video. So try them (rent them for a day if necessary) before you decide whether they are good/bad and if they will work for your shoot. Concentrate on getting quality prime lenses instead of zoom lenses, too.

3. Do camera tests. This goes hand-in-hand with experimenting with lenses. Actually shoot sample video with each lens you try--under different conditions (night, sunset, day, indoor, etc.). You can really determine the best lenses for your movie after doing camera tests. Here is a sample test of the Canon EF 28mm f/2.8 lens that we use:

4. Take advantage of advanced picture styles. There are a lot of different automated styles you can add to your camera to create a desired 'look' for your footage (just Google it). These make great starting points for you. Technicolor even offers a free downloadable picture style that is awesome. If you're going to tinker with your color, etc. a lot in post, though, you will want to start with a 'flat' look. Cinematographer Shane Hurlbut (Terminator Salvation) suggests setting your camera to: Sharpness/Contrast all the way down (-4) and Saturation -2.

5. Prepare for shooting external/sync sound. This means purchasing a great audio recorder and mic. There are several great but inexpensive recorders (such as the Zoom H2/H4) that DSLR filmmakers use and can be easily purchased online. I also suggest using a clapper/slate before every scene; this gives you an audio point you can use to sync up the good sound from your audio recorder to the bad sound from the camera (so audio matches the video). When you get to post, check out the program Pluraleyes--it makes syncing your audio to your video a snap.

6. Get a quality tripod and/or shoulder rig. The advantage of a small camera is that it can go a lot of places and shoot from a lot of angles that a big camera cannot. The disadvantage is that it's harder to hold steady! Using a great tripod is a necessity for most shots. Also remember to pan side-to-side slowly when shooting so you do not get crazy artifacts in your video image.

7. Know your camera. Get used to using manual settings and playing with the ISO, exposure, etc. This includes mastering basic cinematographer skills. There are numerous books, websites, etc. in this regard--and the more you know about your specific camera and how to use it, the better your cinematography in your movie. You will also learn how to deal with aliasing, moire, and rolling shutter...

8. Don't forget about the extras. This includes lights, additional mics, extra memory cards and batteries, filters, better audio adapter, etc. These can add up to cost even more than your camera so allow for this in your film budget.

9. Time is still money. Though you aren't paying for film, you will probably still be paying for everything else. So staying on a reasonable shooting ratio (amount of takes per shot) is still a priority for shooting.

10. Take advantage of pre-production. Lock down your script, learn how to use your gear, and know the logistics of every shooting day prior to getting on the set. It will save you numerous headaches, make your cast and crew love you, and enable you to create a quality product.

Hope these tips help! Happy shooting! Though we have decided to use one of the Canon cameras (EOS 60D), I was personally surprised at the high quality image the Panasonic Lumix micro 4/3 cameras produced--specifically the Lumix GH2 (something to think about if you decide to purchase a reasonably priced DSLR for a movie shoot).

Since I now know that the film will be finished in black-and-white, will use noir-style lighting, and will employ mostly practical SFX, the camera test had to be rather specific. Here is one of the test photos shot with the Canon EOS 60D cameras that impressed us:

To have a better idea of what the 'look' of this movie will be like, imagine the film as an updated, classic Universal horror feature (like the original Wolfman, Dracula, Frankenstein, etc.). We want this movie to have this type of feel, only with updated/modern acting, scares, and plot points. A modern Gothic movie if you will.

Locking down the camera, as well as establishing the final look of the film, has helped us to move on to other areas of pre-production--and to now know the direction of the movie so that we can keep some consistency throughout production. Stay tuned to this website for more info about our next movie, Black Magick.

Black Magick is projected to enter principal photography in November, 2011 and to be released some time in 2012. Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23710964.post-61374073490619578792010-12-06T21:50:00.000-06:002010-12-06T21:50:20.371-06:00Ongoing Fundraising - Mennonite DocFor those who don't know, I've been working on and off on a documentary about a local Mennonite community for the last two years. I anticipate one more Spring of shooting and then we can go into editing (finally). In order to shoot what we need, though--and to afford an editor--funds are desperately needed. Funds to the tune of about $2500.00! We are doing this through the website Chip In (take a look at the widget in the right sidebar). Donations can be made by clicking on the widget and using Paypal (credit cards and debit cards can be used as well).

This fundraiser is also serving as a 'test drive' for future fund raising events for the Memphis Film Society; in short, if we can successfully raise $2500 using online marketing and resources, we can assist local filmmakers with raising funds in the future (though that will be done through the MFS website (www.memphisfilm.org). Despite the link for the fundraising page, this is purely an Elsinore Productions project and fundraiser.

So please help us raise $2500! Donations of $10 or $20 are fine. Everyone who donates will get a 'thank you' in the film credits--but keep in mind that anyone who donates $50 or more will get a co-producer's credit in the movie. It will be part of the 'Shorts #3' program that will be featured on Saturday, Oct 23 at the Studio on the Square theatre. And a great screening time it is! It will be playing right after the screenings of Aaron Katz's movie Cold Weather and Craig Brewer's film The Poor & Hungry (playing at the Playhouse on the Square).

This experimental short stars John Moore and Melissa Walker Moore who both do a wonderful job. The crew for the shoot was a whopping three people that included Ed Griffith, Torre Redford and myself. Once the short has made its rounds through the festival circuit (it's submitted to several more at the moment, including the SXSW Film Festival and the Nashville Film Festival) it will be posted here for the world to watch.

Get your tickets for the Indie Memphis festival at their website--it's well worth the money considering the films they will be screening, the mixers and the chance to network with other filmmakers.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23710964.post-83045350816632503922010-06-28T14:09:00.000-05:002010-06-28T14:09:32.487-05:00New Film in Development: Black Magick

Elsinore Productions is now in development (bordering on pre-production) for the film Black Magick. Shooting for the movie will take place in November and we hope to have a late Spring 2011 release. Casting for the movie will happen in the very near future.

We managed to get our new short film Schism shot this past week with the help of our actors (John Moore and Melissa Walker Moore), the cinematographer (Ed Griffith) and a sole production assistant/assistant director (Torre Redford).
Editing has already begun on the film and we hope to get a cut of the short finished in time to enter in this year's Indie Memphis Film Festival. Wish us luck!Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23710964.post-48640033648456419202010-05-05T13:20:00.000-05:002010-05-05T13:20:26.396-05:00Casting Call: Short FilmSo we are trying to get the casting call out for a short film we are trying to produce ASAP for the Indie Memphis Festival. There's only two roles (one male lead, one female lead). We are doing well on getting word out to the male talent in Memphis, but have only gotten a couple hits from female actors.

The short film is called Schism and the script can be downloaded here for those interested in reading for a role. Take a look, then email me your headshot to info@elsinoreproductions.com.

The short serves as a sort of prelude to a feature film and will be used to market the feature once it has finished its festival run. We could possibly use a couple crew members on hand to help out with the short as well (so give me a shout at the same email address listed above if you're interested). Thanks for helping me get the word out!Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23710964.post-57483936923135726822009-12-30T22:14:00.003-06:002010-01-11T13:50:47.364-06:00Looking to 2010With our new feature documentary Ghosts of War now in post-production, we are looking forward to some new projects! As mentioned earlier in 2009, we have adapted an H.P. Lovecraft story for the screen. It's titled The Tomb and we hope to develop this enough to go into pre-production this year or in early 2011.

Other projects under way is the development of a new story and script titled Far From the Evening that we hope to actually shoot in the Fall and Winter months of 2010--and at least two new short films that we hope to use as marketing tools at several film festivals. These are titled Schism and FM and we plan to shoot them this summer.

We are actually looking for some help with our projects:

Location Scout. If you are familiar with the outdoor areas in and around Memphis, as well as historical locations and homes, give us a shout.

Attorney. If you know a lawyer who wants to work some pro bono hours for helping a local productions company, please let me know. We need to clear some copy rights.

Composer. If you know any local composers who are interested in getting film credit and experience, send 'em our way.

In the meantime, stay tuned for more updates concerning Ghosts of War. We will start submitting to festivals this spring and hope to start doing a few private screenings of the film locally in Memphis this March.

If you are an actor and are interested in learning more about our projects (and want to be added to our casting call lists) send us a current headshot to info@elsinoreproductions.com. In the book realm, I am currently finishing my book for Llewellyn Publishing, The Ghost Hunters Field Guide to Haunted Locations. It is scheduled for a 2010 release (more on that later). Once that is out the door, I will continue writing about guerilla filmmaking, finish my Haunted Memphis book and possibly concentrating more on fiction work.

On the film/video front, I am currently in the process of adapting a story by H.P. Lovecraft into a short feature film (approx. one hour in length). Once I finish clawing my way through the legal mire that is the Lovecraft's copyrights/estate, I will know for sure whether or not I can proceed with this project. That said, I have a couple scripts of my own that may have to be used instead (this is in addition to the ever-in-development project Shimmer).

Ghosts of War, as I mentioned above, is now officially in post-production and I plan to have the final cut of the movie ready for October 1st and a Halloween release. That said, we plan to limit the release to local screenings at this point (one each in the states of Tennessee, Mississippi, Kentucky, Missouri, and Illinois) to get some feedback and to repay the locations that allowed us to shoot with a fund-raiser screening of the film. I hope to get a television premiere of the film for the winter and a DVD release in early 2010 (come on networks, drop me a line...).

At this point, though, I'd like to thank everyone who made the movie possible and worked with us to get the film finished. First off, thanks to the locations in the movie: The Eldred House, the Harney Mansion, Octagon Hall, Magnolia Manor, and the Deason House. Second of all, thanks to our sponsors: Flip Video, Ghost Augustine U.S.A., and Digital Dowsing. I also want to thank the other members of Paranormal Inc, Mike Uelsmann and Brandon Delrosa, for their production help and for investigating each of the locations and getting killer evidence of the hauntings there. And finally some miscellaneous thank you's: Sullivan Journal (press), Haunted Times Magazine (press), Jim Taylor (for his wonderful and authentic music that is featured in the film), and the Memphis & Shelby County Film Commission (assistance with locations, permits, etc).

Stay tuned for upcoming screenings of Ghost of War, as well as more information regarding the general release and premiere of the movie. My newly released book, Cinematic Game Secrets (Focal Press), is on the shelf and three--count 'em three--more books are currently in production:

Guerilla Film Secrets is my new book chocked full of guerilla filmmaking skills, tips, and knowledge. We're not talking about film theory, or people telling you what you should do to make your low-budget movie. This book is about how to shoot your low-budget movie. Anyone can tell you to get free actors, write a script that takes place in nearby locations, and to avoid special effects. This book is about getting dirty, building and making what you need, and getting the job done. Should hit shelves late this year.

Haunted Memphis is my second book and is the culmination of working with the Paranormal Inc team and shooting our first feature documentary Ghosts of War. It's a 250-page, crammed full book of haunted locations, weird history, and information for ghost hunting in general. Read about infamous places like the Woodruff Fontaine house, the Hunt-Phelan home, or the legendary Brinkley Female College ghost story. This book will be dropping this summer.

Lastly, I have compiled a listing of over 1000 hauntings across the United States for my book The Ghost Hunters Field Guide to Haunted Locations. There are listings for every state--and every location is accessible to you, the budding ghost hunter! More information regarding this title's release will be forthcoming.

On the film front, we are in the final month of shooting our documentary about haunted Civil War sites called Ghosts of War. We are down to our last major location--but we can't seem to decide which we really want it to be! We're looking at the Harney mansion in Missouri, the Myrtles plantation in Louisiana, and Cedar Grove in Vicksburg, MS. Whichever we go with, you can bet it will be good! Our other eight locations have paid off in spades. Other than that, we are looking at a couple days for pickup shots and reshoots. When I return from speaking at the SXSW Interactive Festival, I will be diving headlong into editing to get us a summer release.

Stay tuned as we have lots more planned for this year on the film front: A narrative feature, a second documentary, and (most likely) a new short for the Elsinore Productions catalog.

Posted by: Rich Newman Contact Rich at info@elsinoreproductions.comUnknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23710964.post-75883273844415160782008-10-15T15:52:00.003-05:002008-10-15T16:13:05.243-05:00October Production Update
Lots of good stuff going on at Elsinore Productions these days! With several books, an online/television series, and a feature film in the works, we are quite busy and working our collective arses off. That said, here is an update and news about what's happening...

Cinematic Game Secrets

Well, the time has finally come for my first book from Focal Press to hit the shelves. With haunted locations that include the Eldred House, Devil's Backbone, the National Ornamental Metal Museum, Bethel Cumberland Cemetery, and many more, the series is sure to satisfy your paranormal needs. We'll keep you informed when the show hits the air!

Ghosts of War

The feature documentary Ghosts of War, about haunted Civil War sights in the Midwest and Mid-South, is now fully underway. After securing our locations we have just shot out first sequences at the famous Woodruff Fontaine house in Memphis, Tennessee. Known for visiting war generals like the infamous Nathan Bedford Forrest, the Woodruff Fontaine house is now a haunted museum and tribute to the life in the 1800's. Visit the Elsinore Productions homepage often to get more updates concerning Ghosts of War, as well as the release date as it grows nearer.

Haunted Memphis

As a sort of companion piece for the documentary, I am currently writing a book titled Haunted Memphis that I hope to have out this spring. The book contains listings for over thirty haunted locations in the city and area surrounding Memphis, Tennessee. Information about the book, as well as the publishing date, will be released on this site as it occurs.

Also stay tune for possible events in the future, such as book signings, haunted trips and tours, as well as screenings. We are in development now for our next Focal Press book about guerilla film production, an online series called the Redbird Report, and are still plugging away at the graphic novel Far West and feature narrative, Shimmer. With the concept now finished--and the list of locations complete--we will begin formally shooting footage in September and October.

With footage being shot at Vicksburg, Shiloh, Corinth, Memphis, Nashville, Murfreesboro, and Natchez, the documentary will focus on the ghost stories and bloody tales surrounding these areas.

The documentary will feature interviews with local Civil War historians, ghost hunters, and (of course) the owners who have lived in many of these sites for years. The movie will also feature the actual evidence collected by the paranormal group Paranormal Inc during their investigations of the locations. This evidence includes EVP's (Electronic Voice Phenomenon--recordings of spirits that the human ear cannot normally hear), photographs, video footage, and electronic data.

Ghosts of War will be a haunting film that you won't soon forget! Stay tuned to this blog for more information on the Elsinore Productions documentary, as well as the site for Paranormal Inc (www.paranormalincorporated.com).

Posted by: Rich Newman
info@elsinoreproductions.comUnknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23710964.post-86574217932109337452008-05-29T13:17:00.003-05:002008-05-29T13:37:46.827-05:00Paranormal Inc and Shimmer
Well, the production for our online/television series Paranormal Inc. is in full swing! With one investigation under our belt and another kicking off this weekend, we are on schedule to complete our first season of the show. The intent is to use the online version to sell the network version--and so far we are, indeed, getting noticed. You can keep up with the show and the investigations on the program's website: www.paranormalincorporated.com.

My first HD feature film Shimmer is also now in full swing. I have lined out the licensing for the movie's music, hired the major crew members in Memphis, and am now casting the major roles. The film will be shooting in Memphis and Austin over the late summer and early fall. We are trying to make the cutoff for the early 2009 film festivals. Don't forget that if you want to read for Shimmer, to send a current headshot to me at info@elsinoreproductions.com.

As far as my graphic novel Far West goes, the script and text has been completed. I am now putting together a sample chapter for my trip to the publishers. And speaking of which...my first book, Cinamatic Game Secrets is now completed and turned in to the publisher (Focal Press). That will be hitting the shelves in October. If you are a game developer (or a filmmaker thinking of getting into the game development arena), a student, or simply a creative director/producer who wants greater immersion in your game, pick up a copy this fall! Cheers!

Posted by Rich NewmanUnknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23710964.post-34911388813057451572008-04-22T11:50:00.002-05:002008-04-22T12:08:07.826-05:00UpdatesAhh...a new chapter in the history of Elsinore Productions has just begun... We are now officially located in Memphis, Tennessee and are now moving into the year's slate as we speak. Now that I have finished my book on cinematic game design for Focal Press, I have the extra time I need for pre-production. The plan is to get a new short out fairly quick to make the festival rounds: Right now I'm trying to decide between Schism, FM, or Quietus--three short scripts that have been floating around the ether for some time--then I will move on into pre-production for the feature Shimmer.

Though we have mentioned Shimmer a few times already, it was obvious after several reads that the script needed an additional element. I wrote/edited the script again and now feel that the story has been developed enough to proceed. Early reads have gotten a better reception and I'm comfortable now to at least begin casting. We found our locations quite early on and I wrote a lot of the scenes based on these locations, so it just remains to get the cast and crew up and running.

On other fronts, we have shot about sixteen hours of footage for the documentary A Ghost Inside Us and it now remains to go into a lengthy editing session...oh, boy... We have been toying with the idea of generating interest in our ghost-hunting documentary by shooting a small online series called Paranormal Inc. This will get the name out there and hopefully generate enough hits through viral marketing to create a high visibility of the film.

Lastly, we have gotten absolutely nowhere new in regards to the graphic novel Far West. Lack of publishing contacts and pitches has stalled us out. So, it looks like the graphic novel will have to wait 'til winter. Alas...

If you're interested in casting for the short or feature and are located in Austin, Memphis, or Missouri (preferably Southeast), feel free to blast us your headshot and resume to info@elsinoreproductions.com. Cheers!

Posted by: Rich NewmanUnknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23710964.post-1153186351722276382006-12-22T16:31:00.000-06:002007-07-16T12:47:05.643-05:00Current News

Welcome to the Elsinore Productions homepage! Right now, we are in pre-production for our first feature film, "Shimmer," scheduled to shoot Fall 2007. Since we will not be holding formal casting calls, anyone interested in reading for a part should send a current headshot and resume to info@elsinoreproductions.com. We are planning to cast one-on-one for each of the parts to avoid cattle calls. Shimmer is a thematically arranged film about relationships/sexual dysfunction and how these couples interact. Very much in the vein of Andres Dubus/David Lynch.

We have just begun production on our documentary, A Ghost Inside Us, that focuses on the whole phenomenon of ghost hunting and the quest to validate the existence of a spirit. It's going very well and the material is quite exciting. Early marketing analysis indicates this will be a doc most people will want to watch. I hope to have it finished by November to enter for next year's 2008 SXSW Film Festival.

In other news, I have been producing a 110-page graphic novel titled "Far West." This is a story set in a North America prior to European invasion--one full of the mythical elements and creatures of Indian lore. The story follows the Inuit Okoye as he journeys to find a mythical land of plenty. Along the way, he encounters cannibals, warring tribes, and a Lakota named Anapo who has been bred to destroy. The script is already finished, and we are currently developing the art. Here's the first scene (Okoye attacking a spirit in the form of a giant polar bear who has returned to attack his village):

Otherwise, we still have two other projects in development: "Astronomy," the story of an alternate reality and an astronaut on a mission gone horribly wrong, and "She Brightly," the tale of a cheating wife looking for redemption in all the wrong places. The Elsinore Productions produced site, Austin Film Guerilla (www.austinfilmguerilla.com) has also turned up the heat and is now featuring Guerilla News spots on KOOP Radio (www.koop.org) on 91.7fm, and I have just started writing a regular film column for Austin Wide Open magazine (www.austinwideopen.com). AFG promises to just get bigger and bigger.

Stay tuned for more info and news. See you at this year's SXSW.
